Nigeria striker Shola Ameobi had turned down a new contract offer at Newcastle United and will now decide his future after the World Cup.
Several media reports claimed that the big striker had been offered a year’s extension by Newcastle, which he turned down, instead deciding to wait until after the World Cup to see what other offers he might have to consider.
He has already attracted interest from Hull City, who will campaign in the Europa League next season.
There is a tendency for many to think of Shola as some kind of veteran but at the age of 32 and relatively few miles on the clock, he should be still in his prime.
He is now expected to make the final cut for Brazil 2014 with Nigeria after he was picked in a 30-man provisional squad.
