Former Arsenal and Nigeria striker Nwankwo Kanu has hailed Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure as the best in his position in world football today.
Kanu, who recently visited South Africa to present the Premier Soccer League's Player’s Player of the Season accolade at the league's annual awards evening, feels there is no other midfielder who can currently match the Manchester City star.
Toure scored 20 goals as the Citizens claimed their second Barclay's Premier League title in three years.
"If you say who is the best midfielder in the world now, for me I would say Yaya Toure. Not only in Africa, but the world," Kanu said in an exclusive interview.
"He is scoring goals like a striker, he carries the team [Manchester City] on his shoulders, when he isn't playing, Manchester City aren't Manchester City.
"When he is playing, Manchester City are flying, winning games, but not only that, he is like the master of the field - he opens up teams and scores goals.
"He doesn't score easy goals, he scores goals that strikers score. For a midfielder to score 20 goals means he is a special person.
"If you check around the world, I haven't seen a midfielder at this moment that scores that type of goals that he scores."
Toure is expected to lead the golden generation of Ivory Coast stars at the World Cup in Brazil in what, for many, will be their last shot at global glory.
