Yaya to miss Ivory Coast WC prep

Yaya Toure will miss the first part of Cote d’Ivoire’s World Cup preparations as he undergoes treatment in Qatar for an unspecified injury, confirmed the Ivory Coast Football Federation.

Toure is the only one of the 28 players named in the preliminary squad by coach Sabri Lamouchi to miss the start of their World Cup preparations in Dallas, and will only make the trip to the USA next Thursday.

The Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital in Doha confirmed the African Footballer of the Year’s injury as ‘minor’, and his treatment is suspected to be linked with the muscle strain he sustained in mid-April.

Yaya returned two weeks after taking a knock in the 3-2 defeat to Liverpool to help Manchester City secure the Premier League title on the last day of the season.

The 31-year-old’s preparations for the World Cup has been marred by his agent Dimitri Seluk’s comments that claimed he could be parting ways with the English champions in the summer.

Sabri Lamouchi’s Ivorians play two warm-up friendlies in the U.S. against Bosnia in St Louis on 30 May and El Salvador in Dallas on 4 June, before arriving in Brazil on 6 June.
