Broke NFF considered slashing Keshi pay

Thursday 14 August 2014

A top official of the NFF has told ColinUdoh.com that the Glass House considered slashing Stephen Keshi's pay in his new contract.

According to the official, there was no truth to the stories that Keshi would be offered N7 million or even the N15 million being floated in the media.

The body eventually decided to stick with the N5 million that the coach earned during his first stint.

"Everybody thinks there is money at the NFF," the official said. "That is not true. It is difficult enough to pay the N5 million. Why should we now put ourselves in a difficult position by going for a sum that we cannot afford."

As it stands, the current offer of N5million is believed to be a take-it-or-leave it deal for Keshi.

The coach is expected back in Nigeria this week to sigh the contract and begin preparations for the Afrocan Nations Cup qualifiers next month.
